Online Art, Photo And Poetry Contest - Recognizing the Importance of Louisiana's Coastal Wetlands
Sponsored by The America's WETLAND Foundation



Entry Period

The “Keep Your Eye on the Prize” Student Art, Photo and Poetry Contest will begin accepting submissions on February 2, 2009. Entries must be received no later than midnight on May 15, 2009.

Eligibility

The contest is open to Louisiana students enrolled in grades K-12

Entry Categories

Each participant may enter one or more of the following categories:
Poetry
Art
Photo

Age Groups
Group 1:  K-3
Group 2:  4-6
Group 3:  7-9
Group 4:  10-12

Poetry Entry Requirements

  • The subject of the entry must be “Why the coastal wetlands in Louisiana – a region known as America’s WETLAND – are a national treasure worth saving and protecting.
  • The entry should be no more than 300 words
  • The entry must be original work or the contestant
  • All of the poems that meet contest requirements will be posted on the America’s WETLAND website
  • The official entry form must be completed for each entry
  • Each entry must be submitted online

Art Entry Requirements

  • The artwork must be original work by the contestant
  • The artwork must depict “Why the coastal wetlands in Louisiana – a region known as America’s WETLAND – are a national treasure and a work of art”
  • All forms of artwork are accepted, but submissions must be digitally scanned.
  • Official entry form must be completed for each entry
  • To upload the image of your artwork to the website, the image should be saved in a jpg or gif that is 450 pixels wide at 72 dpi. The image height is not specified in order to accommodate images of all shapes. (450 pixels height is recommended, but horizontal or vertical images are also accepted.) Another way to think of the size 6 ¼” x 6 ¼” square.
  • The file should be no more than 150 KB
  • All of the artwork that meets contest requirements will be posted on the America’s WETLAND website
  • Each entry must be submitted online

Photo Entry Requirements:

  • The photo must be original work by the contestant
  • The subject of the photo must depict “How I see the coastal wetlands in Louisiana – a region known as America’s WETLAND – as a national treasure”
  • Photos can be in color or black and white
  • Official entry form must be completed for each entry
  • To upload the image of your artwork to the website, the image should be saved in a jpg or gif that is 450 pixels wide at 72 dpi. The image height is not specified in order to accommodate images of all shapes. (450 pixels height is recommended, but horizontal or vertical images are also accepted.) Another way to think of the size 6 ¼” x 6 ¼” square.

Prizes:

There will be 12 winners, one for each category and age group. First place winners will receive a $300 US Savings Bond, second place winners will receive a $200 US Savings Bond and third place winners will receive a $100 US Savings Bond. Winners will also receive special recognition on the America’s WETLAND at the Storm Warning Concert to be held at the Port of New Orleans on May 30th.

Publicity:

By submitting an entry in any category, all participants give unlimited permission to the America’s WETLAND Foundation, Youth Wetlands Week and America’s WETLAND Conservation Corp to use the name of the participants, their teachers, their schools, the participants’ age and grade, as well as the submitted work for publicity purposes. That consent includes permission to post that information on the Foundation’s website and in media materials.
