A Treasure Forgotten
By: Leah | Group 3 | Luling
Like a string of pearls, A beauty unfurls, This perfect wetland Each tree a shining gem Each flower on its stem A treasure to hold dear A work of art for us here Amongst the bulrushes We find the place Quiet, lapping water Cicadas sing a sacred Lullaby For all, Yet none hear The song of the swamp Nor do we notice The beautiful moonbeams Dance on sparkling water To the music of the marshes In the skies fly A pelican, a snowy egret, Their majesty ignored Lost to the bustle of cities All found in the wetlands, The place of perfection, The forgotten treasure, Soon to be lost Woeful, the powers of time And man destroy a treasure No one saw fit to save. It will soon be gone forever, This perfect treasure.
